Music or Sounds?

I’m sure you’ve heard multiple podcasts out there that have either music or some sort of intro sounds that help you better identify a podcast. Let me give you a more relatable example, think of a TV commercial or even a show. Think of your favorite shows of all time, the ones you really remember- more often than not they have a tune or jingle that may be stuck in your head from time to time.

You are at no point required to make the most recognizable jingle or song for your podcasts, but making your intro music stand out is a great and simple way to increase your podcast listenership, awareness and recognition.

Here at SB Studios we have a couple of ways to help you create your own podcast music or a jingle. If you are also interested in finding your own music or making your own we can suggest some places to do so. Here are a couple suggestions.

5 place for free podcasts music

  1. YouTube - Yes, you can find free music on youtube that can be used on your podcasts. Some youtube creators do this specifically so they themselves can get more exposure. You will need to make sure whatever music you are using from youtube has a creative commons license. This is what will let you know if you can use their music for free.

  2. Freemusicarchive.org - Is a very common place for creators to get free music for their videos, you can find videos for commercial use and personal use that can help you get music quickly if you need it. Popular options like these create conflicts where many creators will use the same music, this isn’t always an issue but does not set you apart from others.

  3. Pixabay - has been well known for their free stock images but they do free music as well. Again, platforms like these have many great options for creators. Pixabay music falls under the royalty free music section. These are songs you do not have to pay to use each time, you may need to pay a one time fee (no fee for CC) or subscription but there's no recurring payments made to the music creator.

  4. ccMixter - is a music community where you can find CC music and royalty free music to cut, copy and download for your podcast. This community of music is created by users and artists so the experience of finding your dream intro music or small may be an adventure but this site is always worth looking at if you need free music and audio.

  5. SoundCloud - This can be your golden nugget! Soundcloud is a great platform to find new and upcoming music and artists. You can find audio for your podcast that allows for commercial and personal use, look for the creative commons license! Soundcloud gives you the ability to connect with artists you may have never thought of. Take a peek, and give a musician a shot!

Where to start?

You have a couple of options, you can check out one of the suggested websites above and dig for your golden nugget of intro music or sounds. There is no right and wrong way to create or come up with podcast music or sounds.
