What is a ‘Show Flow’?

A show flow is the way in which you decide to put your show together or let your show flow. This is often how you will organize or plan your show structure.

If you refer back to Best Practices: Picking a Show Format, you can see that once you have your show format, you can decide how you would like to structure your show.

Example 1- Basic Structures:

PSA: If you have pre, mid, or post rolls those reign precedent for your show flow. Advertisements should always be highly prioritized.

  • Advertisements

  • Music

  • Show Open

  • Interview or Solo talk

  • Advertisements (if any)

  • Music

  • Show Close

  • Music

Again, this is just one simple structure that can help you find your show flow. What’s most important is your show structure aligns or flows how you want it to.

Example 2:

  • Advertisements

  • Music

  • Show Open

  • Music

  • Interview or Solo open

  • Music

  • Interview or solo talk

  • music

  • return of the interview or solo talk

  • Music

  • Show close

Can you see that your show flow can easily change? There is no wrong way to structure your show, just make sure it flows for you and your audience. If your podcast is a comedy show- incorporate comedy into your podcast from start to finish.

If your show is geared towards mystery or murders- make sure your flow includes sounds, music, or theatrics as if you were watching this yourself. What would you want to see or hear to help bring your idea to life?
