Best Practices: Recording
Introduction
Welcome to SB Studios! We write these blogs to help educate and inspire individuals and creators on their podcasting journey. From tips on getting started with your first show to helping you grow and scale when you are ready. Contact us at hello@speakboise.studio for any questions you may have or topics you want us to cover. This article is about proper best practices for recording.
Best Practices:
Record in a quiet space- Choose your recording space wisely, find a room, closet, office, etc where you won’t be interrupted and where you can avoid loud noises.
Double check your gear- Make sure your microphone and software are running and recording properly.
Check your microphone proximity- Aka how close or far you are sitting and speaking from the microphone. You don’t want to speak too closely into your mic, but you also don’t want to sit too far away. Try and aim for 6” distance from your microphone.
Watch your breath work- When speaking try not to over exert your breath. It’s normal if you are nervous, however, take a deep breath, and talk like you normally would into your microphone- you should be good to go.
Watch your body movements- Your microphone can pick up sound on a lot, including your body movements. Get situated and try not to move around too much while recording!
Once you get into your recording routine you will find what works for you and what doesn’t. Rome wasn’t built in a day so don’t put pressure on yourself to have a perfect podcast right away.
